Culture Committee

Role

The Culture Committee exists to help guide and build the culture of our community. The committee will help manage and administer GVIAS’s efforts creating a welcoming, open, inclusive, and safe community. Primary responsibilities include the ambassador program at all GVIAS events, a yearly Burner Skool, and helping to identify new members to the community and ensuring a smooth transition. 

Organizational Goals & Responsibilities

  • Run Burner Skool
  • Run event Ambassador Program
  • Run Newbie Hub
  • Present all planned initiatives in addition to the above to the BoD for endorsement/approval
  • Continue to brainstorm on how to ensure the continued culture of our events 

Expectations

  • Run ambassador program at all GVIAS events
  • Run Newbie Hub, separately or as part of ambassador program, as all GVIAS events 
  • Run burner skool each summer prior to BitF and/or Burning Man, working with the BMO Regional Contacts 
  • Communicate with comms committee about social media postings required to get volunteers and for other community communications 
  • Get volunteers for programs through volunteer committee and comms posts
  • Communicate with the BMO regional contacts
  • Keep regular and accurate minutes of any committee meetings of the whole
  • Use G-Suite and Drive to store all materials to ensure continuity of knowledge
  • Report to the BoD and community annually at the AGM
  • Follow the Code of Conduct in all interactions
  • Follow all applicable BoD approved policies 

Commitment: Year-round

Term: 1 to 2 years

Monthly:

  • Closer to BitF and during runup maybe 5 hours per week 
  • Remainder of the year 5-10 hours during month
  • 35 hours total to run Burner Skool

Skills/Experience

  • Minimum three years in the culture and have attended a minimum of three community related events (local community or another region) 
  • Desire to help guide and build the culture of our community for the better

Reports to: GVIAS Board of Directors

  • BitF Production
  • Dustcovery Production
  • Recharge Production
  • Communications Committee
  • Volunteer Committee 
  • Contracts Committee (for Burner Skool venue) 
  • Regional Contacts 

Membership Is Free

But Some Assembly Required

We are guided by the 10 principles of Burning Man. These principles guide our interactions with one another and the environment and have a strong ethos of participation. As such, our events and the society are entirely dependent upon community participation.

Membership isn't required to participate, but members enjoy a number of perks including access to a community of doers and dreamers.
