Board of Directors Nomination Policy

Purpose

This policy clarifies the nomination process for elections to the Board of Directors (“the Board”).

Policy

A Member in good standing of the Society may nominate any Member in good standing of the Society as a candidate for election to the Board, provided the potential candidate has not served on the Board for the last four consecutive years.

A Member may nominate themselves.

The nomination must be sent via email to the GVIAS board at [email protected] no less than fourteen (14) days before the Annual General Meeting is to be held. The nomination may alternatively be sent in writing and received by the President of the Society no less than fourteen (14) days before the Annual General Meeting is to be held.

The Board of Directors may choose to extend the nomination period by seven (7) days if the number of nominations is less than or equal to the number of vacant board seats. In this case, the nomination must be received no less than seven (7) days before the Annual General Meeting is to be held.

Nomination from the floor at the AGM are not acceptable.

The nomination must state the legal name of the candidate and the nominating party to allow for verification of their membership in the Society.

Candidates may submit a letter of candidacy to be read, or make a statement on their own behalf at the Annual General Meeting.

Membership Is Free

But Some Assembly Required

We are guided by the 10 principles of Burning Man. These principles guide our interactions with one another and the environment and have a strong ethos of participation. As such, our events and the society are entirely dependent upon community participation.

Membership isn't required to participate, but members enjoy a number of perks including access to a community of doers and dreamers.
