Burn in the Forest Name Change update

Hey y’all!

The BitF Name Change Working Group (NCWG) met Tuesday, Oct 22nd at The Egg Arts Society on Victoria Drive – and inside the internet tubes for those not able to attend in person – and WE HAVE SOME NAMES!!!!

The NCWG went through several processes, and we workshopped a short list of names from the over 300 submitted by the community to come up with 7 names for the community to vote on.

The next step in this process is to have the GVIAS Board make sure there are no legal or procedural impediments to the short-listed names. We aim to announce the names at Dustcovery, then GVIAS members will receive an email with the voting process the day after, on Sunday Nov 17th.

REMEMBER: voting will be open to all people who are GVIAS members as of Nov 15th. If you are passionate about this process and want to vote, be sure that you are registered as a GVIAS member before that date. You can do so at https://gvias.org/gvias-membership.

BIG THANKS to everyone in the community who submitted all kinds of suggestions, and much appreciation goes to the members of the Culture Committee (Laura Jay, Peter Bond, Tara Burkhardt) who spearheaded the project over the last couple of years, and to the NCWG (squishelle, Laura Fauman, Sigrun Murr, Mike Funergy, Will Is-Burning, Lauren Ham, Nadine Wu, Brent Johnson, Juicy, Theresa Hamilton/Luna, and Dustin Quasar), who spent considerable time collaborating to get to our final shortlist. We are grateful to Sigrun & Laura F for developing a satisfying selection process that we all felt good about, and to squishelle for Tech & admin support.

GVIAS Members will receive further information via email once the voting process is launched.
