Board of Directors – Nominations!
Do you want to help oversee the steering of the great ship GVIAS? Then consider nominating yourself for the board!
The Board of Directors is a governance role focused on administering an Art Society under the British Columbia Societies Act. This is a behind the scenes role with year round monthly responsibilities and a 2 year commitment term. The Board liaises with year round Committee Members, and enables Production teams to do their work, so we do not directly produce events. If you are more of a “hands-on” person, then you may find a production role or joining a year-round committee role more fulfilling – see below.
This year the Board of Directors is actively seeking and encouraging members with the following qualifications to join the board:
Accounting / Finance – We are seeking someone with an accounting background to be our next treasurer, to help implement sound financial management practices, and investigate tax saving opportunities.
Communications – The board wishes to take a more active role in communicating directly with the membership, particularly around organizational governance matters. We welcome and encourage those with a strong communications or PR background to step up and get involved.
Governance – In the coming year the board intends to review our existing bylaws, membership practices, and internal protocols and policies. Are you a Societies Act superstar? Do you know Roberts Rules of Order like the back of your hand? Do you have a background in HR? We’d like to hear from you.
If you wish to run for the board, or just learn a bit more about the role, click the link below. You will need to use your GVIAS member login to access the form.

Conduct Committee
The GVIAS Conduct Committee is a group of volunteers that are independent of the GVIAS Board. Its mission is to assess conduct concerns raised by community members and provide an impartial and meaningful process to recommend conditions for an individual’s future participation at (or in rare cases, exclusion from) official GVIAS events. The Committee handles sensitive issues with transparency while keeping the personal information of involved parties confidential. It consists of at least nine experienced Burner community members, including the Leads, and makes decisions by consensus.
Learn more about the Conduct Committee on the GVIAS webpage: https://gvias.org/conduct/
The Conduct Committee recruitment process is different from other committees:
- Interested community members shall email the board. Please include:
- Your name, burner name (if any), and any other names you were known by in the previous 5 years
- Your experience within the burner community and adjacent communities – one or two sentences is fine!
- The board will review and interview interested community members.
- The Applicant’s name will be sent to the GVIAS Membership for community vetting, with responses sent directly to the GVIAS Board of Directors.
- On the basis of the interview process, and if no concerns are raised by other GVIAS members, the Board of Directors will appoint the Applicant to the Conduct Committee.
